He wants to be pure, to not have the baggage and the negative social stigma that is already put on the average atheist, he doesn`t want to feel or risk contributing to something bad which may happen within the belonging group.
Humans label everything.

I did this myself a while back.
I was asked if I believed in God, I said
, and they ended up asking me "so you`re an atheist?", No I wouldn`t really wanna label myself as that, I don`t really like belonging to groups, and having to have the social expectations of an atheist on myself.
