Exmormon here. I think they fill Mormons days with all that stuff so they don't get a chance to THINK. Cause if you start to THINK....it all falls apart and the Morg looses one of their cash cows.

I ordered a book from a site, and said they would send it for free. Mormon.org i think, kinda sceptical at first. But they said there was not tax or anything i had to pay, they just said, alright we'll send you a translation. If its one thing i don't need, then that is people at my door

There is so much pressure to conform to the party line. Crushing pressure. That's not motivation.

I would love to get my hands on a BoM but there's no way I'm shelling out money for it. Plus, if I order one for free online then the Mo's will have my address and probably start showing up at my front door to harass me and I definitely am not polite to proselytizers who show up at my door.

I've been thinking about going over to the local ward and seeing if I can talk them into giving me a free copy, but I want the copy that comes with the D&C, the Pearl of Great Price and the Book of Abraham which I don't know if they give away. Plus, you know, I've got so many more worth while things to do and books to read... This is an endeavor that's been on the back burner for a long time.

If you do go over to the church building, ask for a "triple combination". If not, I could prolly get my hands on one and send it to ya.

Hm. The Mormons use their young as missionaries, that is likely a pretty formative experience. It teaches them to persever in the face of ridicule (which many be its most important lesson from the Mormon point of view) and often gives them grounding in other languages and cultures. Apparently the CIA has a disproportionate number of Mormon agents due to that particular qualification.

Yeah, they force young, naive teenagers who know dick about the religion to save up their own money to spend over 10 hours a day, 6 days a week for 2 years (with minimal family contact!) doing a pro bono high pressure sales job, trying to sell product nobody wants to people. (Since they are now mostly fresh outta high school, they have little experience living on their own and learning how to be independent.) Since they know dick, they can't properly handle questions about "tough issues" from prospective converts. After coming home from a Mormon mission, they are nicely indoctrinated...but wait! It isn't over. Within weeks, or maybe days/hours of returning, they are reminded that "marriage is the next step" and the pressure is on to get married. Then to have kids. etc.
