I like Kroger's generic food items. They are typically not much, if any, different from name brands. Their sandwich bread and buns, in particular, are actually superior to national brand breads which sell for twice as much or more.
I never even heard of Aldi until I moved to Kentucky, but that store is 98% generic knock-offs. Some of it is not so great, but a lot of it is perfectly suitable, and their prices are usually a lot lower.
