To get people to believe his story with insufficient evidence by promising a cookie for people who do (the cookie itself also to be believed in on insufficient evidence). That doesn't sound much like the supernatural claims of any other religion except all of them.
And the longer ago they were (and thus harder to verify) the greater they were. Creating the universe, creating life, creating humans, drowning the world, stopping the sun, causing plagues, raining mana, raising the dead, healing the sick, walking on water, appearing on toast...anyone else see a pattern here? Even if you grant the existence of God, he seems to be running out of steam.
Not many. Siddhartha, Mohammed (catching up even though Christians had an 800 year head-start), a few others. He had an impact, although the emperor Constantine seems to have had as much to do with that as Jesus did.
Have you ever thought about how really convenient that excuse is?
Also people couldn't leave their homes, it seems, during the days of the OT without experiencing a sign from god. And then, later in the bible (I can't remember the passage) it states that faith is what's important and god will no longer make personal appearances or provide signs.
SO, I usually say:
Thousands of years ago: god can create the entire universe in only seven days
5000 years ago: God can flood the worl
3000 years ago: God can wipe out thousands, destroy cities and spur a nation into conquest
2000 Years ago: God can inspire an itinerant rabbi to and his followers to die.
1000 years ago: God can lead an entire continent into an age of darkness
500 years ago: God can inspire nations to fight the infidels
300 Years ago: God can inspire a reign of Terror
Today: God can appear on a cheese sandwich
Witness, if you will, the diminishing power of God!
First time Christ came as a lamb, second time a Lion.

Hardly a sacrifice.
Deity-man suffers three days of pain, as extreme as it may have been, and then becomes emperor of the universe.
A sacrifice would have been dying and staying dead - no more consciousness, no more existence.
And the standard question applies: Why would an all powerful deity need a blood sacrifice to itself to change its own rules?
God abides by His own rules He established. He said without the shedding of blood there is no remission for sins. He didn't have to die for us and we would of perished in our sins. He chose to spill His blood to pay for our sins.

Yep, that certainly is written down in a single book, the sole purpose of which is to get you to believe that this happened and worship Jesus. That's where that was written down.
And nowhere else.
The single book is inspired by God, why would I need another book?
