This knowledge, which I only gained when I was 25, has been very productive for me. My understanding of women in this sense (they are still mostly incomprehensible to me) has reaped its rewards...
I think this is partially enforced by society. I could "crank one out in the kitchen" too, and I know guys who really like moods set to a nicety. It's just not "girly" to be like the former or "manly" to be like the latter.
