Quote:1 John 4

The above is a mistranslation. Angus Podgorny-Epstein, professor Emeritus of Glasgow School of Linguistics (Tel Aviv campus) published the little known (but nevertheless well-received) paper, 'Hebrew/Aramaic Issues Regarding The New Testament Which Occurred To Me During Breakfast' in the June 1954 Journal Of The Israeli Historical Documents, Quilting Bee and Terrorist Guild.
Among other issues (not the least of them finding .references to '...the onion milkshakes of the Canaanites' in the Old Testament), Dr. Podgorny-Epstein points out that while the Hebrew word for God is
האל; אליל
The Hebrew word for 'bacon' is
קותל חזיר
Dr. P-E's theory (never conclusively disproved) is that a scribe , while re-copying the fourth chapter of 1 John spilt a bit of his lunch on the page, and the error was never corrected. Thus, the passage from the OP should properly be read as:
7 whoever loves has been born of bacon and knows bacon. 8 Anyone who does not love does not know bacon, because bacon is love...
12 No one has ever seen bacon; if we love one another, bacon abides in us and his love is perfected in us.
16 bacon is love, and whoever abides in love abides in bacon, and bacon abides in him/her.
I hope this clears it up for you, TC.
