I don't think you fully comprehend what 'atheism' actually means. I am an atheist. That doesn't mean that I know there is no god, it only means that I do not believe there are any god(s). That is not reserved for the Judeo-Christian god, but for Zeus and Odin and Ra and every other 'god' that anyone has ever claimed exists.
One of the reasons I do not believe the contention that god(s) exist is that there is a complete lack of empirical evidence to support the claim (in my experience). A lack of evidence is not reason enough to say for sure that something doesn't exist, but it is enough to say that I don't believe that it exists. If convincing evidence to support the claim were presented, I would have to change my conclusion, but at this point, I have never seen any reason whatsoever to believe that god(s) exist or are even likely to exist.
