I think the casualty of war through the ages is probably much closer to a 50/50 split between male and females than most people realizes. People tend to restrict the scope of war casualties to those who were directly involved in pitched battles. But a great portion of casualties occurs outside the big army on army military engagements, and tend to be incurred in a much more gender neutral way, as in sieges and bombing of civilian population centers, indiscriminate massacres, loss of law and order, collapse of food distribution, destruction of habitations, increase in susceptibility to diseases, etc.
I also hesitate to say men caused 99% of the wars. Wars usually have complex, multifaceted causes, and I suspect involvement of women can be identified at some stage of the process in many more wars than people realizes.
I know these weren't really wars, but behind most of the major race riots and massacres in early 1900s US was a white woman. Either she was fabricated, lying or telling the truth, she was the reasonings for the riots. In every case a white woman began the massacres of Rosewood, Florida, Tulsa, Oklahoma, Alabama, Arkansas and many others. That is thousands of lives and millions of dollars wasted over, in those cases, one white woman "claiming" a man of a different color assaulted her.
