Now, I'm more in data analysis... big calculations to extract physical quantities out of diagnostic data... for fusion plasmas... don't really need thermodynamics!

Fair enough. T_C and T_H are the temperatures of the cold and hot resevoirs of the engine. Personally thermodynamics isn't my favourite either; I find like particle physics and relativity interesting, all that counter-intuitive stuff.
