I'm sure that I'd fear death a lot more if I believed that something came after it. I'd be worried about going to hell, or purgatory, or getting reincarnated as a dung beetle, or whatever. Especially since I'd think that what sort of afterlife I got depended on my earthly behaviour (and, worse still, maybe even my thoughts). Fuck me, but that would be paranoia-inducing. Thanks, but no thanks.
As it stands, of course, I'm an atheist. And what is there to fear? I'll simply cease to exist as me, and the molecules that make up my body will rejoin the cycle of nature. Some will become nutrients for plants or earthworms, and eventually some will be incorporated into other people. Now that sounds much better.
Plus, of course, its a view of the world thats in accordance with Science, and doesn't rest on delusional beliefs or half-baked philosophical 'arguments'. Which has to count for something.
