Are you saying Theory of Evolution and Natural selection is working according to a MECHANISM?
Read what your FATHER DAWKINS is saying about this,
“Natural selection, the blind, unconscious, automatic process which Darwin discovered, and which we now know is the explanation for the existence and apparently purposeful form of all life has no purpose in mind. It has no mind and no mind’s eye. It does not plan for the future. It has no vison, no foresight, and no sight at all.”

Go and teach this MECHANISM to your FATHER who is the specialist and professor of evolution.
Probably the word "mechanism" is a poor choice of words, but let's start with the concept of natural selection with a simple example: you have butterflies and we know they come in all sorts of colors. But lets suppose that through a mutation, one butterfly turns out to have the same color of the bark of a tree, making that butterfly when it rests on that tree "invisible" to its predators. Because of this advantage, it has a better chance of survival than those butterflies which have flashy colors and can be easily picked up by their common predators. After a few generations, the butterflies with the mutation will outnumbers the others and soon become the predominant type of butterflies.
Now mutations have no purposes: in this case, it did not intend to make the butterfly invisible to its predators. It just happened that way. Mutations occur because when DNA replicates itself, it makes mistakes - just like you if you were copying a book, there would inevitably be mistakes. So when we say that natural selection has no purpose this is what we are talking about: mutations occur because of copying error. Most mutations are harmless, occasionally they are dangerous to the individuals, and sometimes they give an advantage - like in our case of the butterfly. And when they do give an advantage, the individuals with that mutations will proliferate and eventually outnumber those who weren't born with the advantageous mutation. In the long run, this process will yield a new species, if the right conditions are there for that to happen.
Hope this helps.
