DeistPaladin and Minimalist, you both have been around here long enough to have received apologists' answers to your arguments. But your arguments seem to me to boil down to two claims: the God of the Bible is evil, and he was authored by deceptive people.

This thread is devoted to discrepancies between the gospels and descrepencies between the gospels and history. It doesn't matter if those descrepncies were because the writers were liars or because they just copied down faulty oral history. The point is that they are really really wrong. That means that they don't prove Jesus.

The apologists are liars or, more likely, self deluded. There is no other historical document about which they'd accept their own claims--- but wait, it's possible on an outside long-shot chance is not scholarship it's last ditch pleading. If you want to believe in Jesus without proof, well OK, but don't' say you have anything approximating proof, because you don't. And do realize that those of us who don't believe have reasons that have nothing to do with hating god. There buckets of room for doubt, and no evidence.

If you want to believe god is good, fine, but recognize you'll have to ignore a lot of scripture to do it.
