Speaking of earthquake faults, the system of faults running along California's liberal coast, while dangerous, didn't generate the most powerful quakes in Californian history. That honor belong to Sierra Nevada frontal fault, located deep inland near Nevada border, under some of the more conservative areas of the state.
The most dangerous system of earth quake faults in the lowers 48 states and responsible for the most powerful swarm of earthquakes in the lower 48 - the New Madrid Earthquake fault system - is located far from California. In fact it is under some of the most conservative parts of the US, in the lower Mississippi valley.
The largest earthquake ever to strike anywhere in United States also didn't happen anywhere near California. It happened in Sarah Palin's home state of Alaska.
So god might have put a shot across the how of napa country, but he seems to have shaped the ground for the real smiting in lands where conservatives dwell.
