I think this is probably the most simple and best answer given on here. All the stuff about chemical reactions and such is rather irrelevant if the person doesn't give some specifics, as in what chemicals exactly. I think that's not really it though (except maybe that everything we experience is the result of chemical reactions, in which case it's a rather irrelevant statement when it can be applied to literally any feeling we have.) Love is more like a condition that exists continually.
As for myself, I've been in love before (and am currently!) and I know because of exactly number 3. I'm an extremely self interested person who generally doesn't really care about other people but for the people that I love (both platonically and romantically) I find myself suddenly caring about how they are feeling. Which honestly most people don't really when it comes to strangers or acquaintances.
