Hey, can you fix my PC? The cupholder is broken.

Oh, and my keyboard needs defragging.

I've been in IT for about 18 years. I actually did have a user who complained that her "monitor wasn't working" and it turned out to be that her PC was powered off.

Bear in mind, this was an old PC-XT, which had a large red switch on the side with clearly labeled "ON" and "OFF" positions. This was akin to complaining that the room was dark then sheepishly realizing that you hadn't opened your eyes.

I used to do PC support decades ago - and I'm not surprised there were still PC-XT's still running back then.

Kind of hard to miss the Big Red Switch, IMO. At least it was plugged in. I can't tell you the number of support calls that went like this:

"My PC won't work."
"Power cycle it." (turn off, wait, then back on)
"Still doesn't work."
"Are you sure it's plugged in?"
"Of course I am, do you think I'm stupid or something?"
"Of course not, sir. Would you please humor me and double check it?" (this means "I don't know if you're stupid or not, but we're going to perform an empirical test to find out."
<grumbles> "Oh, OK."
(time elapses)
"Hey, it started working again, thanks."
