A post count requirement only clears up the poor trolls. The good ones know how to stick around... how to become integrated: a part of the system.
It's irritating if I want to get into an interesting discussion right away, and don't want to dick around talking about something stupid like atheism or how someone's christian mother is an idiot. Any sort of raised postcount has the potential to alienate, or worse, bore any newcomer who has something they want to say.
In some ways, such threads provide the lifeblood for this forum. They're points of laughter when begun by the insane... can you imagine how utterly tedious trawling through AF would be if only members who had established more posts than *5* could post new threads anywhere but introductions?

Where sometimes is heard a discouraging word
But the skies are not stormy all day
