Is Obama a President or King?

Executive orders are part of the presidency. I mean, seriously, do you have any idea how many executive orders were made by Regan, Bush1 or Bush2? Hell, the first president to use executive orders was Lincoln; are you questioning whether he was a president or king?

Tarajo, I already addressed this. Nobody thinks the president cannot issue executive orders. Nobody is saying this. This is either a straw man argument by the left...or the left believes the president has the power to do what ever he or she wants via executive order.

And, in all honesty, this is about the only way Obama is going to be able to accomplish anything. The GOP has made it crystal clear that they aren't going to approve any significant legislation that he'll ever be able to take credit for. I mean, had they ever bothered to write up their own immigration package, they'd have more to stand on. As it is, it feels like all they're doing is saying "No, I don't like your idea" without ever offering an idea of their own.

Obama promised he would do something about immigration in his first year in office. He had the house and the senate in the palm of his hands. He could have quite easily done everything he did today(and much more) legislatively but he choose not too.

Obama did not because he doesn't really care about immigration. He helped tank the Bush's immigration bill back in 2007 that would have granted legal status to at least 2 million illegal immigrants. The democrats controlled the senate and were tacking on amendments that they knew would cause the republicans to reject the bill. Obama pledged his support to the bill all the while voting for toxic amendments which would kill it. What Obama cares about is using this as a wedge issue for political gain. He doesn't give a rats ass about the illegals immigrants.

MrAgenda correctly points out that Obama's actions today can be erased with a stroke of a pen by the next president. So what did Obama really accomplish? He poisoned the well with the republicans and created a situation where illegal immigrants have to live with the fear of uncertainty. Should they come out, register, pay taxes...pay back taxes, only to get deported when the next president rescinds the executive order? He tells them to come out of the shadows....but knows damn well they won't......and you suckers believe he did something good today.
