To be honest, I wouldn't bother: they don't give you very many souls, in relation to how much trouble they'll give you. And there's nothing worth seeing in the area they're in either, so killing them is really just a victory for your pride.
Alternately, you could come back there later on in the game, when you're leveled up and carrying some more formidable weapons. The piglets don't scale with you, so they'll be exactly as strong then, as they are now; toward the end of the game I could just wade through them.
