No dispute there, but looking at the men in her life you can(sort of) understand her outlook.
By contrast I have known and know people who, having been through similar life stories have transcended them
and could even be said to have become better people because of( and despite of) their experiences.
Of course, this doesn't work for everyone unfortunately.
