Of course not. But it is no comparison to the slavery of old where a person was forced to work until they died, they were not paid, and they would be murdered if they disobeyed or fled. What makes you think slaves were not compensated in anyway? All slave owners work with carrots and sticks. The Carrots were compensation above basic living conditions. and the stick was usally a stick..
The same is true today. These people dont make a living wage, meaning their lives/families have to be subsidized in some form or fashion. The worst of the worst do not subsidize, and just leave their people to make try and make it on their own, even after a full days work.
This is what happens when people like you pretend that everyone is just low paid.
Quote:Calling sweatshop conditions deplorable is one thing, but comparing it to slavery of old shows a lack of understanding of what true slavery entails. Accusing people of supporting slavery because we buy out-of-season fruit and electronics is asinine. Is it supporting poor working conditions? You betcha. Slavery? Nope.Educate yourself before you speak on a topic.
If you want to see a modern example of actual slavery, take a look at human trafficking. People are sold for sex, labor, and to much more awful ends.

Here are pictures of 'modern plantion workers along side 200 year old examples. if they were all put in the same format you could not tell them apart.

Slavery is alive and well my friend. Google Modern Indian textile production or indian tannery

Again the only thing that has changed in these industries in the last 500 years is increased demand, and the cancer causing compounds/tanning solutions and dyes they swim in to produce our shoes and clothing.

You shop for the cheapest product that will fill the need you have. or maybe you want an apple or tomato outside of their normal northern hemisphere growing season? Where does that come from? A south American plantation who operates much like the plantations of the 1800 in the southern states.
These people are working/slaving for one reason. To provide a consumer based soceity with the products it buys. There is no other reason for them being there. That's what makes you responsiable for their conditions.
Which brings us to the otherside of the coin. Without our soceity these people would not have jobs period, and would die/starve. We need them, they need us.
What the bible does is protect them from a pure exploitaive relationship, like what we have now, because people like you want to sit on their imagined high horse and pretend all Slavery is bad.
WAKE UP!
The World runs on and NEEDS slavery to one degree or another. It always has and will unless we can develop our robotics far enough along to do all the labor jobs for free.
Dirch Dirch DIRCH sweatshop people get paid and live a free life. People do sweatshop work to provide for their families if you did any research on it. Its a tough job market some people unfortunately need to get by any way possible. its not slavery it can't be even compared to slavery
.
Slaves do not get a chance at life all they do is fucking work. They work day in day out. they do not get a chance to live a normal life. They die from abuse or they are killed trying to escape.
READ THE POST BEFORE YOU WRITE! Or do you not know the difference between a sweat shop and a plantation?
