It's stated right here in the rules of this site:

And why would we need such a place? People like you of course. That's flip, but to a certain extent I mean it. Religion is: pervasive; contradictory (hint not even all Christians agree let alone all theists); loud; often self righteous; often legally privileged, in some parts of the world tax funded; and in many cases dangerous or even deadly (think suicide bombers and crusades). And atheists do have to deal with all of you: Christian, Islam, Jewish, Mormon, Hindu, etc. We have to work, raise children, and just generally live with you all. We probably have theist family members who are bothered by atheism. So yes we have things to talk about, and also a need for a safe place to let our hair down. This is such a place.
What this is not is a place for you to proselytize. We aren't here so that you can address a bunch of heathens at once with the message of Christ. Got it? Because we've already heard it, and unless you have actual evidence of god (never happened yet), I don't want to hear it. And yes, many of us know the Bible better than you do.
If there is a god, I want to believe that there is a god. If there is not a god, I want to believe that there is no god.
