Adding "or people who made me think they were" makes for a VERY large difference.
The police always look for consistency in reports, if you changed your statement, they are going to spend time and resources investigating other cases where they won't have that difficulty if they do make an arrest and then the DA looks over the police reports and decides not to charge because the lawyers are going to cite the changes, and that makes for reasonable doubt and the jury won't convict and its a big waste of time and resources, and the police could have went after a different case and actually got someone in prison that time, and actually made a difference in the crime rate in the area and then few people would get attacked because an actual perp was convicted with good evidence and put in prison and that is how the system works so you'll know.
