I've seen, on more than one forum, the phenomenon where if you necro a post, you're told by the readership to stop necroing threads, and if you start your own thread on a topic already covered, you get told, "We have 17 threads about this already."

I like the idea of necroing threads. I started a thread one time elsewhere as a contest, to see who could come up with the oldest necro. I think it's cool to see a site's history like that.
