Dear Pope,
I was recently made aware of the Catholic Church's position (I am Christian not a catholic) and I agree. I have observed that between the end of creation and the fall of man, there is no time line in the Genesis account. This would allow the whole fossil record that science places under the 'evolution' title quite nicely. Thus allowing for a literal 7 day creation (in that the Genesis account describes what was done from a garden perspective/created to reflect the evolutionary progress of the world at the fall of man 6000 years ago.)
Meaning God created the garden to look like the world would when He knew man would fall from grace. This would account for the city Cain fled to and the wives the sons of adam took.
I have posted this theory in much greater detail on several different forums from Christians to atheist if your interested to see how different people have responded to this.
