It's "possible" doesn't mean - it happened. There could be a great number of civilizations at various stages of development all over the universe. And they could still not be able to detect one another. Universe is really, really big. Bigger than you can imagine.
It's not strictly impossible that some "aliens" came around Earth at some point, but it's at least equally possible that they haven't. Until there's an actual proof - as opposed to ranting of crazy and/or uneducated attention-seekers who watched too much sci-fi - there's no reason to assume aliens are here right now.
