I don't think you've thought this through. Let's assume that "the mother fuckers bomb each other into oblivion". I don't understand the assumption that this leads to peace. Who exactly fills the vacuum? It's naive to think that this vacuum filling will not result in its own mortal conflict. What I find ironic is that even though it wasn't mutual destruction, the abject weakness of the Byzantine and Persian empires after years of war gave rise to the quick Arab expansion of the late 7th century.
On a more humane level, you seem to ignore the carnage inflicted on the innocent in the region. In fact, your idea of oblivion suggests that the majority of people will simply be considered a collateral damage afterthought. Sitting back and blaming the Bush administration for the current malaise may feel good as a political 'I told you so'; however, it does nothing to solve the problem.
