Wow, you're stupid. And taking Robert Spencer as some kind of authority on Islam is as valid as taking Ken Ham for arguing evolution.
Open a fucking history book.
Here are the facts from the top of my head, the sources are easily looked up doing a google.
The Byzantinian emperor sent a letter to the pope asking for mercenaries, since he got under pressure at the Eastern fringes of his vast empire. What he got was pope Urban making a declamation. The famous "Deus lo vult!" where demanded a crusade.
There was no fucking Djihad at that time, which was late in the year of 1095. Only a bunch of Islamic leaders trying to expand their realms and waging war against each other as well as Byzanz.
Well, the pope got what he asked for. European nobles, to use that term loosely, assembled their forces and set out in 1096. It was mostly french knights and rabble. They first ventured into Germany, where they started slaughtering jews in most major cities. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhineland_massacres)
Fighting against christian towns and nations, some even under the protection of or belongig to Byzanz.
Ah, why do I even bother? There was massacre after massacre until it finally culminated in the big one of Jerusalem in june 1099. There you go for that: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siege_of_Je...%281099%29
Yup, that will be it. Coming from a guy, who can't even bother to open a history book.

That's not rationality, that's lazy hate.
