That sounds like such a shitty situation, VP. I am sorry you have to deal with that. I don't have much experience with Mormons, but the one's I've met are generally nice.
Those ladies in the laundry just sound like catty bitches. I would let them be, be nice to them if you have to deal with them, and let them run out of things to gossip about.
If I were you though, I would run out the lease, and get to a larger town. I live in a small town in Tennessee and there is a LGBT Alliance at the high school, there is a gay meetup, and even an atheist meetup. More people is always better in your situation. Just for happiness' sake. I mean you can't meet anyone and even date someone in that town without scandal.
And if they can prove that you are engaging in homosexual activity, there are plenty of municipalities in Utah where it is still legal to evict tenants based on nothing more than sexual orientation. In other words, there is no law that prevents this. I would finish your lease and move to Fresno.
