I do disagree on how animals are treated on their way there and while there. Animals all over are put through needless crualty.
All the animals at my grandad's farm were always treated right. Even when it came to the beheading. Quick and painless. Just alot of mess.
In chicken slaughter factories the chickens are hung upside down on a conveyer belt and run through a electrified bath to stun them so the line up well for the decapitation blades. For the slaughter of just 2 or 3 chickens that is a bit too elaborate.
Cows are usually stunned by placing 2 specials cushions on the temples of the animal and run a high amp current through it. The animal is then so stunned it doesn't feel the neck being slid so it can bleed dry. It is very important that the animal feels as little as possible as adrenaline spoils the meat.
I used to live on a farm so I've seen it all, and I still enjoy a good steak like so many people.
