OK, OK, religion is like art in one specific respect: it changes over time (contrary to efforts of orthodoxy) especially as different cultures influence each other.
Reading the OT reveals how Judaism changed over time. First, there was no afterlife. Then, there were vague ideas of the afterlife. By the NT, they'd fully incorporated Greco-Roman ideas along with many others. Judea was located at the juncture of three continents and represented a vital step in trade routes. It seems only natural that such a syncratic religion as Christianity would eventually develop there.
And, of course, Muhammad got his revelation from a god based partly on the Roman world and partly on his own culture. Odd how this god Yahweh-Allah only speaks to people in that area of the world, huh?
