It's not about what people think.  It's about whether or not the person you're trying to help is going to actually absorb the message and act upon what you're trying to tell them.  You see, the point of giving people advice is to help them, not get your smug jabs in.

He's heard it your way before and he obviously hasn't absorbed it and acted on it. Different people respond to different approaches. Note that I first tried a low-key approach, just suggesting that he model his behavior on well-adjusted people. Only when he said he had tried that did I ratchet things up. Face it, he's not modeling healthy behavior by dressing in black and hanging out in cemeteries.

So, based on a four word title on the profile of a forum you've extrapolated my entire approach to mental health?

Yeah, that and the fact that there are many people on this forum who pay lip service to other approaches but are mostly in favor of drugs. I don't recall if you specifically are one of them, but the tag line makes it an easy guess on my part.
