This is a nod to the conspiracy theory of history, as opposed to the blunder theory of history.

In a sense it is ruled by a globalised economy. And with all the advantages of getting everything from everywhere it can rapidly get out of hand as has been shown in 2008. The problem is, this kind of market is dominated by relatively few mega players and it defies  checks and balances, especially when it comes to the financial sector.
