I am willing to believe that. Sometimes, when debating with theists, I feel like they are speaking a language only known to them. Though in that language, I can understand the words, but I feel like they are using the wrong ones or putting them in an incorrect order.
It goes deeper than the language. Even when we try to communicate with someone who speaks a different language, we know that for that person 2 plus 2 equals 4. Not so with theists. They live in a world were 2 plus 2 equals whatever the Bible says.
Rule of thumb: Understand what they say but overstand what they don't say. That's where the truth is in what they don't say.
The god who allows children to be raped out of respect for the free will choice of the rapist, but punishes gay men for engaging in mutually consensual sex couldn't possibly be responsible for an intelligently designed universe.
