According to the Book of Mormon, dark skin is a curse (see links above, particularly the second and third links). The modern Mormon church disavows this, but it is part of their sacred text. It is the usual sort of nonsense that religions do. They latch on to some stupid crap, and later on have to distance themselves from their own moronic scriptures.
