I think that most atheist are generally intellectual atheist that have done research and much pondering over what they believe and ideological atheist that take a position as an ideologue rather than from their own conclusions. William lane Craigs had an interesting RF podcast this week (I am sure you all heard it) about how aggressive atheists tend to use mockery and derision rather than reasons and logic. THIS IS NOT A BLANKET STATEMENT. However, it does seem to be a favorite of many atheists.
That said, we need to be careful with how we take statements from William Lane Craig regarding reason and logic, because he uses those terms very differently from the actual dictionary definition: In fact, WLC only considers things to be a deployment of "reason" when it supports the position he already holds, and nothing else.
So when WLC says that atheists are quick to use mockery over reason, what he really means, if we are to take his stated positions at all seriously, is that atheists are quick to use mockery rather than offer arguments that support the gospel, which, I mean... yeah.

It's pretty rich to see WLC chastising others for not using reason anyway, given what his position regarding reason actually is.
