One huge thing you're missing is that here in the US, ethnic minorities are protected from discrimination by law, while it is still legal to discriminate based on sexual orientation, per federal law. 22 states have passed their own laws barring LGBT discrimination, meaning that anti-gay discrimination in America is still legal in 28 states.
The fact that minorities can avail themselves of the legal system in order to redress injustices means that while ethnic bigotries may well be more virulent (this may or may not be true), they are also easier to counter through legal means. Because gays don't have the same level of protection in our society, they often must hide their identity. And such a matter as portraying a false identity, or repressing part of oneself, is necessarily taxing, psychologically.
I think your thinking on this matter is overly simplistic, myself.
