I cannot speak for all Christians, but the state of play in America would demand an aggressive response from them. They live in a land where children are going to be indoctrinated into the gay liberal agenda to think sodomic partnerships are equivalent to Holy Matrimony. This is not acceptable, and if they have any moral fiber at all they will oppose it at every turn.

There is a difference between venial, grave and mortal matter and can be reacted to with a proportionate response.

Calling someone an unpleasant name would be a venial sin. You might pray as reparation and will ask for forgiveness for yourself and them.

Driving the Christian faith out of Jerusalem as the Muslims attempted is mortal sin and must be met with force to quash it.

So why were the Conquistadors in South America?

"Castilian law prohibited foreigners and non-Catholics from settling in the New World. However, not all conquistadors were Castilian. Many foreigners hispanicised their names and/or converted to Catholicism to serve the Castilian Crown."

Many of the conquistadors were greedy, but they were accompanied later by priests who brought the true religion to the mesoamerican pagans.

In that light they saved the souls of thousands of people from damnation, they are heroes.
