Firefighters Watch House Burn

So yeah, the fire fighters in this county (Tennessee, go figure) only will only put out a fire at your house if you pay their yearly fee. I'm all for capitalism & a well-regulated free market, but I think it's a horrible idea for healthcare, emergency services & infrastructure.

What do you guys think?

Also:

The man offered to pay them the fee right then and there, or however much it took to get them to put out the fire, but was refused. The man lives in a county that has no fire protection. The nearby town offers fire protection to non-residents on a per-contract basis.

Really, this is the next logical step for those who believe that insist that a privatised version of any necessary service for the community is the best way to go. If you think it's good to deny poor people life-saving but expensive operations (especially when similar models have been shown to work in, well, every other developed nation) you might as well support shit like this.
