Dark matter is thought to be very heavy non-luminous matter (has no electrons to emit or absorb photons so it gives off no detectable radiation). It's thought to be so massive that the LHC will need to get up to around 15TEVs to detect it, if at all.
It's also only accountable for 23% of matter.
Dark energy is the leviathan in the cosmos at approx 73% of the mass-energy density.
