I think the answer lies partially in reality of unseen dark forces. In which way can they misguide some people over others, and what kind of misguidance they want on each people.
And there is extra effort in gathering people who cling to the Quran in words, but are devoid of it's spirit, to misguide rest of humanity.
Shortly after the Prophet's death, they rallied against his successor, his daughter, and ended up killing his grandson. This while the wage of the message is to love the family of Mohammad. This is while they are blessed in Salah.
