Religion for the sake of religion brings about the worse of people and even if not, is evil regardless. That's why Islam condemns people wanting other then the submission as a religion. Because religion aside from what it makes people do is evil in itself except that which is done purely out of submission to the light.
The people in love with "Islam" as a religion and act for their religion, as opposed to pure love of God's light (family of Mohammad), are devoid of the word of guarding and piety.
With "Muslims" you have people love "Islam", and then you have people who are in love with God and his chosen friends, and their spirits don't submit simply outwardly in obedience, but inwardly are in love and in awe of God and are attracted to the sacred spirit of God's Vicegerents.
The thing is with "Islam", there is as much distortions, misunderstanding, and corruption, as almost any other religion. However, the spirits that don't love religion for sake of religion, but love religion purely for God, would submit to his chosen ones, and be guided by a light from him.
Religion all in all is evil, and the true religion, comes to take people away from their fanatic devotion to their religion and blind following. If you want to see examples of how Quran describes how religion leads people astray, read Suratal Ana'aam (6th chapter).
