Well how I came out was via Facebook. Nice eh?
I posted that my religion was "Atheist" and after some drama between my sister and I (whom I have not talked with in over a year now even before coming out) my dad started asking me questions.I posted on my Facebook after my sister went to Haiti for a mission trip that I no longer wanted to have anything to do with her because she couldn't even take a minute to even talk to me or respond to my comments, text, etc. I just gave up after almost 5 years of fighting with her over this stupid grudge she has against me. I had to finally come out and say what I felt and what I thought about religion. It caused a very huge fight, me to go into a depression stage and no talking to my family for almost 2 months.
But you know what? It was worth it. My parents/family who are all very religious Christians (non-denominational now) they realized that they could not push me away because of my choice. It ended up causing my parents to fly up to Washington to visit me even! xD
The thing is, when you tell her/them, there is more than likely going to be some negative reactions, but after it sets in, at least in my experience, they accepted it in the end. Would they like their daughter and son-in-law to be with them in their Christian religion, of course. Did they learn to respect our decision, yes. It took a while, but they knew hoarding so much resentment for my decision was immature and stupid on their part. They accepted it and now things are better than they have been in the past.
