The last time I went swimming in the ocean off the Oregon coast was in my mid-teens. The tide had gone out and left this really awesome and huge tide pool that was just shallow enough to be warmed by the sun so that you didn't get hypothermia if you got in, and just deep enough (5-foot or so) that you could actually get in and swim around.
That was a good day at the beach...
