Yet they embrace the religion of the white Europeans who enslaved black americans and oppressed their culture in the first place, the theology of which says implies it was perfectly OK for them to do so.

I happen to be an African American female atheist. I can guarantee you that the vast majority of black Americans will not understand the message of that billboard because they truly believe that the Bible-god freed them from slavery as Moses' god allegedly did for the Israelites. What they don't understand is that the same god who "freed" them also commanded slavery. Trust me, they have too thick of a mental block to ever get it. It's a shame.
God is a personification of ourselves, what we wish to be, and that which we do not understand.
