Hello to all you massively intelligent people, how are we?
So, climate change, hot topic right now (don't excuse the pun). I guess you could say that I am a sceptic, not in the sense that I deny that the climate is changing, of course it is. More that I do not believe that we are as responsible as we are led to believe.
I am no scientist, but I do enjoy reading up on these kind of things, so.... I'd like to be enlightened, as I'm not sure my understanding of the subject is as it should be and, from what i can gather in my fleeting moments here, there are some people with very large brains here. (No, not you GodsChild)
So, we are being told that the polar ice caps are melting and that this is our fault. As far as I am aware, the Earth has had 5 ice ages, an ice age being defined by any period where we have Ice and/or snow on its surface. The Earth is 4.6 billion years old, or thereabouts. of that 4.6 billion years, for 98.something% of its life no snow or ice existed on its surface.
10,000 years ago Britain was covered in ice, it isn't any longer. Since that period the ice caps have been getting steadily smaller, yet, if we are to believe what is reported in the media, we can stop this, if only we stop pumping Co2 into the atmosphere.... this doesn't make any sense to me, at all. The ice caps are going to melt, as they have done before and, hopefully, will do again.
I am no scientist, as you've probably gathered, but am genuinely interested in being educated, it's one of the reasons I came here. So, if any experts are out there, I'd love your input.
Cheers
