It's not disingenuous at all. The holocaust was much more sinister. Stripping people down, shaving their heads, and then running them through a barbwire lined trail straight into a chamber where they handed them bars of soap to keep them calm, rushing them the entire way so they don't have time to think, and then gassing them.
Yeah, that's a little worse than forced sterilization or infecting people with tuberculosis.
Rudolf Hoss reported that you knew the gassing was complete when the screams stopped. You'd find the bodies all stacked in in a pyramid as the people crawled on top of each other to try and keep above the gas.
