Naturists call people like Kit a body fascist. Naturism is all about being happy and proud of your naked body no matter what it looks like and getting away from the idea that it can only be shown if it is beautiful and sexually alluring.
And you're right, there are real health implications to covering up. Vitamin D is the first that springs to mind. You cannot obtain it from food unless you eat fish, or the food has been artificially fortified with it. You need to get it from sunshine. There is a huge vitamin D deficiency even in hot sunny places that can lead to many degenerative diseases. This is because even though it only takes about 15 - 20 minutes to get all the sun you need on a sunny day at noon, this is if you are exposing your entire body. If you just expose your face, like most people do then you don't get more vitamin D by exposing it for longer. Each part of the body can only get a certain amount of vitamin D a day. It's made worse by most people spending most of the time indoors or in cars. Windows filter out the UV rays that give you Vitamin D. Add to this the scare about skin cancer, I used to lather myself in factor 50 even in Scotland. Now I have MS I have to do the opposite and expose as much skin as possible on the walk to and from work. Not many people have a regular tan like me in this country.
