President Zelensky and the Withheld Funds

I was researching the withheld funds and couldn't believe what I was reading.
The Ukraine is being invaded by Russia. Nearly 400m in US funds were appropriated to help the Ukraine in their fight against Russia.
Zelensky is a television comedian starring in a Ukrainian comedy show called, "Servant of the People" where he plays the roll of the president of Ukraine. What the...?
In 2018 he started his own political party and named it after his show: Servant of the People.
At the end of 2018 on December 31, he announce that he was running for president fo' real!
The funds were to be released on February 23rd. But, Zelensky was already the frontrunner. So the funds were withheld pending the election and set to be released in May.
Ukraine has a two vote system and the elections were held in March and April.
Zelensky won and was inaugurated on May 20th. Sounds like a bad movie.
Two months later: the infamous phone call and Zelensky had no idea of the funds until the whistleblower.
The funds continued to be withheld, and amongst worldwide pressure, the funds were released on 9-11 (Symbolic?)
In 1978, the then Soviet Union attempted to invade Afghanistan.
President Carter gave funds and weapons to what was known as "The Freedom Fighters" in their fight.
One of the freedom fighters was Osama Bin Laden.
The rest is history.
