I like tall because you don't have too much of a juggling act keeping happiness positive. You also just have to focus on keeping a few cities growing strong, with tradition you just keep units in your cities and you pay no maintenance. Only downside is that you can go the whole game and not really get into any major wars. Its good for the victory but waging massive wars is awesome.
Same here. I usually stick with three-four cities, and puppet or raze any I capture. I have played several games where I went wide because I needed forward cities for strategic reasons. It's quite a bit harder and there's more micromanagement needed.
Somehow, I still manage to get in massive wars.
