How much is the difference from conquering a small city and conquering another player's civ? I'm at the medieval era, I have catapults, swordsmen, Horse-riders and soon I'll have knights. It will take at least more 50 turns to transition to the next era so it would be cool if I started annexing more territories.
By the way, can I keep building farms and lumber camps, as many as I wish? Or should I stop?
The key to being not thought a warmonger is to not attack cities other civs are friendly with. They'll hate on you if you attack their friends, and generally won't care if you attack their enemies.
In the late stages of the game, you won't care.
